I'm not actually making a book for my final images in this project but I thought I'd make a quick little book cover for fun. Would need a bit of work if I were to use it properly but I quite like it as it is.

Introducing Lolita...

Some images from my latest project, illustrating the novel 'Lolita' by Vladimir Nabokov. I've been working with mono print and pencil so far, I think the final illustrations will be mono print, I like the gritty texture you get with mono print. Mostly WIPs!

Mr and Mrs

I can't seem to get away from these drawings I did for a project on elderly care last year. I have now added some collage and a nice splash of colour to the original pencil drawings.

I had probably a bit too much fun making these, they make me laugh so much I think I might finish the rest of series and have a little series of jazzy old people collages. These are probably some of the most 'finished' looking illustrations I've done, pretty pleased with them! I also submitted them for the Papergirl Birmingham exhibition. It'll be nice to see them hung up.

Papergirl Birmingham

I sent some work into Papergirl Birmingham, a free exhibition/movement that is open to anyone and you can send them anything you want. It's such a good idea, here's a little more on it;


"Originating in Berlin, papergirl is a global project that aims to open up the art world onto the urban streets of everyday life.  Donated artworks will be rolled to curious passers by creating a visual spectacle and disturbing the monotony of routine."

I sent in my beloved old people pencil drawings, buuut this time I added some collage to them (saving for next post). The great thing about this exhibition is that it's in Birmingham this year so I can go see it when I go home over Easter!   

Penguin Design Award 2012

This is my entry for the Penguin Design Award.

One flew over the cuckoo's nest.

I wanted to focus on the muddled and murky mind of a mental asylum patient. Using specific excerpts from the book as a collage background, while mainly focusing on the design of the title. Dark and murky, like the undertones found in the book.  

Logo head pain

Am messing around with a new logo/header for my blog and website.

This is it at the moment, got a lot to change though. Very simplistic, handmade, gets the point across.

 Here's a different version, I like the cut-out paper effect, maybe a different colour though.

Paper and glue

Here are some weird collages I did last week. They make me laugh, I'm tempted to do more. Quite irrelevant from my project though.

They are inspired by Vladimir Nabokov's Lolita. I took inspiration from the time period of the 1950's and the idea of travel throughout the novel. I didn't tackle the character of Lolita in these collages, I wanted to focus on the male characters; which is why most of them resemble monsters. Both physically and metaphorically.

Business card designs

Back with some new business cards.
They're drawings from a past project on elderly people, I think the portraits compliment the small scale and simple design of the cards.
